We Focus on the Personal Development of Our Students
Our principal mission is to educate our students in such a way that, when they complete their studies here, they have become inquisitive individuals with self-confidence and open minds to ensure a successful future.
Healthy Atmosphere
Good eating habits
The school menus consist of a balanced diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables and contains a wide range of ingredients so that the students can choose from among a variety of healthful options.
We promote the benefits of sport and physical exercise
We believe that sport is a fundamental pillar of a healthy lifestyle. For this reason, at this stage we encourage participation in sport competitions both within school and with other schools, as well as co-curricular activities.
Convenience and Comfort
Pastoral Care
At Caxton College, we believe that a nurturing, caring environment that values individuals as part of the community is vital to student wellbeing. Our Pastoral Team is made up of compassionate and highly skilled staff whose priority is the happiness, wellbeing and personal progress of students. Getting this right is crucial to their academic success. Tutors are responsible for monitoring their pupils on an individual basis and for regularly reviewing their personal and academic progress. Every day students have an opportunity to see their tutor in morning registration or at other times for advice or support as needed.
Leadership
We offer a range of opportunities and roles for students to demonstrate their leadership skills and develop wider skills needed for the future.
The Co-Presidents are the voice of all Secondary and Sixth Form students. Any Year 13 student who has previously been a member of the Student Council, Form Mentors, Eco Club, or who has been an active participant in school life may stand for election. These two delegates oversee the running of the Student Council, which is a vital link between the student body and the school’s leadership team.
The Student Council is made up of twelve pupils from Year 12 and 13 who are elected, in addition to the Co-Presidents. Members of the Student Council meet regularly during the school year with the Co-Presidents to bring their suggestions and improvements to the leadership team. They organise whole school events such as our annual talent show MOVES, charity cake sales and events for specific days such as World Teachers’ Day. They also work closely with students and staff to bring about positive changes to our school community.
Charitable Values
In addition to academic excellence, we teach a curriculum that aims to educate individuals with values who are committed to their community and motivate students to become good people.
Throughout the school year, there are several charity campaigns that help to educate our students about issues such as world hunger or the lack of awareness of the world’s environmental problems.
To carry out these campaigns, we work with various international organisations such as UNICEF, Fundación GANAS, La Casa Grande, Asindown, WWF, ASPADIS, TAI and Asociación Periferia, Alianza Española de Familias de von Hippel-Lindau, Por la Sonrisa de un Niño, the Ronald McDonald House in Valencia, Pásalo Puzol, Cáritas and Manos Unidas.
Year 12 students may also choose to do voluntary work with one of the various organisations with which the school collaborates. At the Asociación Periferia Valencia and at the Martínez-Coll centre in Puçol, student volunteers help children and young people in danger of social exclusion. We also collaborate with the day centre and care home for the elderly in Puçol where volunteers help out running workshops that focus on sensorial, numerical and literacy stimulation.
Assemblies and Houses
Every student is assigned to one of four Houses, each of which is named after famous expedition ships: Adventure, Discovery, Endeavour and Endurance. These are all words that we associate with the challenges a student faces in learning and growing in character.
Our House system aims to encourage healthy competition amongst students in a variety of areas. Previous and current House events include spelling competitions, debates, fancy dress and recycled fashion shows, as well as our annual sports events: Games Day, Athletics Day or the Swimming Gala. All ‘high levels’ collected throughout the day also count as House points, and at the end of the academic year, the House awarded the most points throughout the year is the winner.
Throughout the academic year, students attend a variety of assemblies where they participate in different activities, actions related to fundamental values or celebrations of student achievements and effort.
Medical Care
The school has an onsite clinic, staffed by a school nurse and a nursing assistant, where all pupil and staff medical needs are seen to. Throughout the school day, first aid is provided in case of an accident, as well as any medical attention required in case of illness. Necessary treatment is provided in accordance with authorisation by families.
